CoAdvantage Review, an independent broker's honest assessment.

CoAdvantage is the Southeast's price-competitive SMB PEO, with workers' compensation pooling that can carry a comparison on its own for a higher-risk employer and a June 2025 merger with PrimePay that pairs its CoAdQuantum platform with a broader HCM stack. The merger is also the caution: product roadmap and rep coverage are still settling through 2026, so get continuity commitments in writing.

Quick verdict: the TL;DR.

Our score
3.5/5
Competitive SMB pricing, strong workers' comp pooling and a CPEO plus ESAC stack; the score is held by the unsettled PrimePay integration and a thinner carrier menu than the national PEOs.
Best for
Florida and Southeast SMBs of 10 to 250 employees, especially in higher-risk workers' comp classes where the pooling advantage is largest.
Worst for
Enterprises over 500 employees, companies with international payroll, and anyone who would rather not ride out an active merger integration.

We've placed clients with CoAdvantage across multiple industries and headcounts. The assessment below reflects what actually happens in real engagements, not what the CoAdvantage sales deck says happens, not what the affiliate review sites report based on commission spreads, and not what aggregated G2 stars suggest.

Company background: CoAdvantage.

CoAdvantage was founded in 1997 and grew as a Florida-based PEO with a Southeast core, serving roughly 110,000 worksite employees. In June 2025 it merged with PrimePay, the payroll and HCM provider, under Aquiline Capital. The combined company brings CoAdvantage's PEO operation together with PrimePay's HCM technology.

The platform story is the point of the merger. CoAdQuantum, CoAdvantage's proprietary system, is now paired with PrimePay's HCM stack, which should mean a stronger technology offer than a regional PEO usually fields. Should is the operative word in 2026: integrations take time, and the roadmap an employer is sold today may not be the one delivered next year.

CoAdvantage holds IRS CPEO certification and ESAC accreditation, which puts it in the compliance-sensitive bracket alongside the national PEOs. That is worth noting for a regional PEO; many of its size carry one or neither.

Pricing: what to expect.

CoAdvantage quotes per client and its own site says it does not publish a fixed rate. Pricing is PEPM, and in our comparisons it is consistently competitive in the SMB tier, often among the lower administrative fees on the page for a 10 to 100 employee company.

The line that decides most CoAdvantage comparisons is workers' compensation. CoAdvantage pools clients on its master policy and has been consistently sharp on rates for construction, hospitality, healthcare and other classes that are expensive to insure on your own. For a higher-risk employer the workers' comp line can outweigh every other difference on the comparison.

Contracts are annual with competitive exit terms for the tier. Given the integration in progress, the clause to add is a service-continuity commitment: who your service team is, and what happens if that changes.

Strengths: what CoAdvantage does well.

Workers' compensation pooling that moves the number

This is CoAdvantage's distinctive economic advantage. An employer in a difficult class code who buys workers' comp alone pays its own experience; on CoAdvantage's master policy it pays a pooled rate. For a roofing contractor, a restaurant group or a home health agency, that single line has justified the switch in our comparisons.

Competitive SMB pricing

CoAdvantage prices to win the 10 to 100 employee company and usually does, on the administrative fee. A small business comparing it to the national PEOs will typically see a lower fee line.

Straightforward implementation

References describe implementation as uncomplicated: a clear timeline, a named implementation contact, and payroll running on schedule from the first cycle. For a small company with no HR department that is not a minor point.

CPEO and ESAC

Federal employment tax liability transfers to the PEO, the wage base carries over on a mid-year start, and ESAC's financial assurance stands behind the obligations. CoAdvantage carries both.

Considerations: the things to weigh.

We frame these as considerations rather than negatives because most are real trade-offs rather than disqualifying flaws, but they are things we make sure clients understand before signing.

The PrimePay merger is still integrating

A merger of this size changes service teams, systems and priorities, and 2026 is the year it is happening. Product roadmap and rep-coverage assignments are unsettled. That is not a reason to avoid CoAdvantage; it is a reason to ask your sales rep specifically about service-team continuity and to get any platform promises in the contract rather than the pitch.

Fewer carrier options than the national PEOs

CoAdvantage's medical menu is narrower than Insperity's, ADP TotalSource's or Paychex's. If your workforce is spread across regions with different dominant carriers, or your employees are attached to a specific network, check the carrier list for your states before assuming the plan you want is on it.

Footprint

Florida and the Southeast are the core. Multi-state employers are served, but an employer concentrated in the West or the Northeast should compare the service experience there, not just the price.

The fit: who should and shouldn't pick CoAdvantage.

Good fit for CoAdvantage

  • +Florida and Southeast SMBs of 10 to 250 employees
  • +Employers in higher-risk workers' comp classes: construction, hospitality, healthcare, retail
  • +Small businesses for which the administrative fee is the deciding line
  • +Multi-state SMBs that want a unified HCM platform and can wait for the integrated roadmap

Bad fit for CoAdvantage

  • −Companies over 500 employees
  • −Employers with international payroll needs
  • −Workforces attached to a carrier CoAdvantage does not offer in their state
  • −Anyone who wants a settled product and service organisation in 2026
